Summary

Focus Operator is built to live on your device. Focus session data, blocked-app selections, task templates, and most of the rest never leave your iPhone.

The only personal data we ever transmit is the phone number and name of an accountability partner — and only after that partner has opened a web form, entered their own number, and explicitly consented to receive SMS from Focus Operator.

We don’t run analytics on focus session content. We don’t sell data. We don’t share data with third parties for marketing or promotional purposes.

No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Phone numbers collected via the focus partner consent form are used solely to deliver the messages the recipient opted in to receive.

What we collect

On your device only

The following stays on your iPhone, in Apple’s standard encrypted app storage and shared App Group container. It never travels to our servers.

• Focus session history (start time, end time, what you focused on)
• Your blocked-app selections (stored as opaque Apple tokens — we cannot see which apps you chose)
• Task templates and presets you create
• NFC tag identifiers you register with the app
• Theme, sleep schedule, and other app preferences
• Names and phone numbers of accountability partners you add

On our servers

We store the minimum data required to make accountability SMS work. This lives in Cloudflare Workers KV and Twilio.

• A randomly generated owner key that identifies your app instance. It is generated on your device and stored in your iOS Keychain. It is not derived from your Apple ID, phone number, or any other identifier we could trace back to you.
• Your accountability partner’s phone number, in E.164 format. Stored only after the partner has consented through the web form.
• Your partner’s name and your name, as you typed them when generating the invite.
• A consent audit record: the timestamp, IP address, and browser user-agent of the partner at the moment they submitted the consent form. This is required by the carrier compliance regime that governs business-to-consumer SMS in the United States.

What we never collect

• Your Apple ID
• Your real name (unless you type it as the inviter name)
• Your location
• Your contacts (we never read your address book)
• Which specific apps you blocked (the system gives us opaque tokens, not app identities)
• Analytics on focus session content
• Advertising identifiers

How we use it

We use the data above for one purpose: to make Focus Operator function. Specifically:

• Send accountability SMS to partners who have explicitly opted in
• Show you the status of partners you have invited
• Respect opt-out and stop requests from partners
• Maintain the consent audit record required by SMS carriers

We do not use this data for advertising, profile-building, or third-party marketing. We do not sell or rent it.

Who we share it with

We share the minimum data with two service providers, only as necessary to deliver the service.

• Twilio: We send your partner’s phone number and the message body to Twilio so they can deliver the SMS over carrier networks. Twilio’s privacy policy applies to their handling of that data: twilio.com/legal/privacy.
• Cloudflare: Cloudflare Workers and KV storage host our backend. Cloudflare’s privacy policy applies to their handling of network and storage data: cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.

We do not share data with any other third party for marketing, analytics, advertising, or affiliate purposes. Ever.

Where data lives, and how long we keep it

• On-device data: Stays on your iPhone until you delete Focus Operator or use the in-app reset. Uninstalling the app removes everything stored on the device.
• Partner record: Lives in our KV store while the partner is confirmed. If the partner replies STOP, or if you remove them in the app, we delete the record — including the consent audit trail — immediately. We do not retain partner records beyond the active relationship.
• Unconfirmed invites: Invite tokens auto-expire after seven days if the partner doesn’t complete the consent form. Expired tokens are unrecoverable.

Your rights

If you are a Focus Operator user, you can:

• Delete the app to remove all on-device data
• Remove an accountability partner inside the app, which deletes their record
• Email hello@focusoperator.com to request a copy of, or deletion of, any data we hold about you

If you are an accountability partner who received an SMS or invite from Focus Operator, you can:

• Reply STOP to any SMS from us. Your record is deleted immediately and we will send no further messages.
• Reply HELP for support information.
• Email us directly to request deletion of any record we hold about you.

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the CCPA, including the right to know what personal information we have about you and the right to request deletion. Exercise these rights by contacting us at the address above.

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have additional rights under the GDPR and UK GDPR, including access, rectification, erasure, and portability. Exercise these rights by contacting us at the address above.

Children

Focus Operator is not directed at children under 13 (or 16, where applicable under regional law). We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has used Focus Operator without parental consent, contact us and we will delete any associated data.

Security

All communication between Focus Operator and our servers is over TLS (HTTPS). Passwords are not used — identity is established by a per-device owner key stored in your iOS Keychain. Partner phone numbers and consent records are stored in Cloudflare KV, encrypted at rest by Cloudflare. We do not log phone numbers in plaintext in our application logs.

Changes to this policy

When this policy changes, we update the effective date at the top and (for material changes) post a notice in the app. Continued use of Focus Operator after the update means you accept the revised policy.
